Looking to buy time, with some dieing paint!
 

My SDL is an awsome shade of 904 blue, my favorite color for a MB. But her roof and trunk lid are turning white at a frightening pace.:( I wax her at least once a month, and only use Meguirs and Griots products on her paint. I have tried everything on these white spots, but it seems they are the result of internal break down of the paint. They are progressing very rapidly this year, I fear that by the time I put her away in early October that the entire roof and trunk lid will be fadded white, if not peeling.:o Waxing used to hide them and slow them down, but it seems this year it is of no use. Polish, clay, paint glaze, you name it it has little affect.

Is there anything that I can do that will slow the progress or even hide them? I was amazed that even over the winter, when she sits under a car cover in a heated garage without any sunlight hitting the paint, these spots still progressed!!

As soon as I have the money I will strip the body down for a complete paint job, but that isn't in the cards this year. Probably next year, so I just want to buy time.

Any ideas?

Turtle Wax Ice has given me the best results in a simliar situation with silver paint,

Sounds like the clear is lifting off of the base. You could try to have it wet sanded to the base and re clear it but a full strip/repaint is the route i would go.

Currantly the car is in storage so it doesn't bother me. I'm not going to try to fix it, the paint is breaking down. I'd have to sand and do touch up with a spray gun to get it even close to matching. Not going to happen.

The uglyness will just motivate me to make more money and get her painted next year!:D

Actually I have had similar results with this wax. My Volvo Wagon's paint is doing the same thing with oxidation and this wax takes it away instantly. While the wagon is mostly a "utility" vehicle its nice to have it look decent.

P.S. Now only if we can get Mercedes to do an S class wagon!

Oh my got a lot worse over the winter. I don't understand how paint can degrade under a car cover in a garage. Whatever I have given up, fingers crossed I should be able to paint her this year.

Oxidation is the process where oxygen reacts with the paint or clearcoat. Car cover or not your car is exposed to air and thus is oxidizing. Maybee you could suck all the air out of you garrage? <evil grin>
