What brand of paint

is on my 300, 1988? German company called Glasurit, right? Or are there other brands of paint to be found on the MB marque at this time?

The reason I ask is, how hard is it to get OEM paint here in the States these days? The paint on my CE is mostly original. It's starting to craze a bit and after a scratch X or claying really shows it's age. It's not all that bad, really more like a patina. However, I thought I'd ask around about Glasurit(sp?) and also if anyone has ever sprayed their own MBZ.

Thanks,
Jason

I work at a Mercedes body shop, and there are several brands approved for MB warranty work...Glasurit, Standox(which we use) and I don't recall what the other brands are. Sikkens is not on the list. As a practical matter, I suspect different brands have been used at different times in different production facilities over the years, so brands don't make as much difference as you may think.

And, please don't try a DIY paint job. We would charge $5000 + for a complete refinish, and there's a reason it costs so much...lots of prep work, lots of trim disassembly, and decades of expertise in actually spraying the finish. The chemicals in modern finishes are nasty too, so a proper paint booth and respiration equipment will help keep the painter alive too.

And for what's its worth, BASF owns Glasurit, so it should be available at any paint and body shop.

I was looking at having my bumpers repainted. Part of the quote was what brand of paint. I recall OEM paint was about double with no delay in getting the job done.
