Start with a detergent like Simple Green and work it with a tooth brush. It's a bit time consuming but I have found tooth brush's work the best (small bristle size).

Simple green is a good start. I like to use Mr. Cleans magic eraser and Krazy Clean. No scrubbing required, wipe on and off followed by a fresh water sponge.

Have you had a problem with the fabric separating from the backing?

I've noticed that a lot of cars have a thin layer of foam rubber-like material behind the fabric. With age and probably heat this foam and adhesive gets brittle and just falls apart. Can't recall if MB's have this or not.

No scrubbing? May have to look that stuff up, but the project is on hold unil next summer, as it is too cold and nasy to bother right now..

Thanks,
J
