Hi guys just wondering what you guys did to polish the chrome on your cars?

I would like to give my grille and wheels a real good cleaning so the chrome has a deep shine and lustre to it.

I was thinking I would use a good chrome polish, but I was wondering what the best method to apply and remove it was, and which polish you guys think gives the best results.

I plan on Appling polish and Using a rotary buffer to buff the hell outta the chrome. I plan on doing this a few times to really get it nice and shiny and clean.

What do you guys think the best method is.

Thanks,

Alon

There are some really good chrome polish in the market - but having tried all, nothing beats a good ole car polish. Compound for the brilliant finish, and wax to protect the finish. The only setback in using waxes is the wavy finish which I suppose could be buffed off rather easily with a soft buffing clothe.

I tried Brasso too. Very deep finish. I find it useful for the front grill. Something different. But I wouldn't suggest using Brasso everyday as its known to be quite strong.

I use Meguiar's "All Metal Restorer" to polish the chrome. It works well unless your chrome is badly oxidized...

I use SimiChrome, the same stuff I use to polish my brass. It cleans, polishes and leaves a protective film (which wears off a little too fast). For application I use a terry wash cloth, a little dab and two fingers to work it in. Buff off with an old t-shirt.

The Best I've Tried...

Mother's Mag & Aluminum polish. I had a chrome base part for a kitchen sink faucet that had a weird discoloration and some surface scratches.

I tried brasso, Happich Simichrome, Blue Magic, and even some "secret" trucker polishes I got at truckstops. The Mothers was the only one that gave me the result I wanted.

But I admit that I haven't tried the Meguiar's...

Meguiars all metal polish is pretty good.

The only downside to Meguiars all metal polish is they are non agressive formula, which is good or bad. If you have road debris or "stuff" your trying to get off your chrome, it wont be much help getting it off. But once you get it sqeeky clean, then it works well. Its good because the non agressive formula wont scratch the chrome, so its good and bad situation.

Mother's is right! I just did all the chrome on my 400, and this is the best I've been able to get it. I've used this product on my rims, just not on the body chrome. Works very well, cleans easily and shines hard.

After years using SimiChrome (and trying just about everything else) to prepare show cars, I have stopped using it in favor of Blue Magic metal polish. It works chemically as opposed to abrasively and not only is it easier to use, the finish it leaves behind is incredible. I used to dread polishing the mirror finish Weld wheels I put on my Suburban; with Blue Magic it was still work but not as much work and results were unreal. On alloy wheels such as the Welds or polished Fuchs alloys on 911s, you can really see the micro-scratches other polishes leave behind, but not so with Blue Magic. Check it out, it's available in tubes or tubs and I won't use anything else.

Regards,
