The side bolster on the driver seat leather has cracked big time over the last year or so...beyond repair. That piece will have to be replaced. I imagine they will replace that section of leather. I want to have them redye the rest of the seat while they are at it.

I tried three car upholstery places today and the three were out of business.. LOL.. .I have to try another part of town tommorrow.

I just priced that very same repair on my 300E. Was quoted over $300 for one panel. The shop does a lot of restoration work and is probably the top one in my area. The owner, not a ripoff artist, said the job is labor intensive, over 3 hours. I'm looking for a used seat now.

Hermans do all SW 67th ave just north of coral way. He replaced a few panels on my 420 for me was like 300 bucks if I recall but was on 2 seats, so less labor for one seat. If you bring the seat in uninstalled I am sure that would lower your cost abit too.

They did a great job.
One thing, the sides (the smooth leather) is a really cheap material. The perforated stuff has to come from Mercedes and requires the full replace of the whole surface since it is pre-made - about $200 for each panel.

I would try it myself first. I recently bought a seat re-coloring repair kit from leatherrenew.com to repair cracks and my worn color on my 1997 e300d car seats. They blended it to match perfectly. The dye or paint they use is probably a high quality latex base paint of some kind it smells exactly the same as latex paint. The filler they give you for scratches and cracks on the leather has the texture of white latex window caulking. (I am not positive about it being caulking, but pretty sure, it smells the same). Once the area was cleaned well with thinner or alchol That latex caulking type filler they gave me stuck to the surface very well and was near impossible to even try and scrape off with my finger nails. They noted to let the filler dry over night then sand it smooth. It is very flexible, has not split or cracked on me yet and it is on the high traffic area of my car seat right under my right leg.

So maybe one could try a latex caulk for the crack filler and let it dry for a prolonged period of time especially in larger cracks. If it drys to an indent you could always add more. If you make a mistake it will instantly wipe off with water. If it later on cracks again you could easily touch it up and paint over it again. You could try all of this on a practice piece of vinyl. Get your paint color matched at any paint store or Walmart. Leather renew says to thin their color with water for a nicer spread of finish and less streaking. I already have plans to repair my dash this way. A satin (not flat) sheen is usually desired for re-finishing as most leather finishes are satin..

It gives one a great! feeling of satisfaction knowing you saved hundreds maybe thousands of dollars, but even more so you don't feel at the mercy of others to do your handy work for you at a high price....
