Upholstery quest - dark olive velour for 300CD?
I recently picked up a 1984 300CD with the silver thistle green (881) exterior and dark olive (956) interior. It's a wacky color combo overall--the car would look right at home in a 1970s kitchen with those avocado color appliances--but I really like it.
Unfortunately the interior is velour (looks like this: http://www.astralsilber.de/polsterungen/956.jpg) and not MB-Tex, and therefore the seat upholstery is in bad shape. Since the car is fairly low mileage and body/mechanicals seem to be very good to excellent, I'm considering taking the plunge and dealing with the upholstery. Does anybody have any advice on how to deal with replacing this seat upholstery? As best I can tell this dark olive color is rare enough that I'm unlikely to find anything on Ebay. I'd like to stay as stock as possible. Does anybody have any experience in working with somebody like this (http://www.autointeriors.biz/) to recreate stock upholstery? Or is my only hope that MB might still have some OEM replacements? I'm guessing either of those is likely to be a spendy option. thanks

Personally, one of my favorite color combos. Can you post photos of how bad yours is You might be surprised at what is savable.

World Upholstery claims to have German made cloth/velour upholstery material. A little tough to navigate their site and it doesn't link well, but it's there. No color chart, but they encourage phone calls. FWIW

Adam:
I've attached a few photos of the problems with the upholstery. What makes me think I need to completely replace the upholstery as opposed to attempting some sort of repair is that it is so dried out that it is easy to create more tears like what you see in the photos. jbaj007: Thanks for the pointer. I will contact them. If I get any interesting info out of them for MB stock or near-stock reupholstering options, I will post to the forum.

Hi SamJam,
I never could find that green velour. Other velour yes, but that green was apparently relatively uncommon. But I loved that car and color, so what I ended up doing was getting the MB-Tex that matched the other vinyl in the car, which is #156 Dark Green. This wasn't easy to find. It was located by Jim at JJProducts (Mercedes Rear Seats | Sunvisors | Jump Seat | Mercedes Restoration | Upholstery | Reupholstery Kits in Leather and MB Tex | Carpet Kits | Replacement Convertible Tops). I think he eventually found the right color somewhere in South America. The quality of MB-Tex recoverings his fabricator produced was fantastic. Given how uncommon the color is, he may still have material left over from my order! No, it wasn't the stock velour pattern, but in my opinion it looked great with the other vinyl in the car (as best I could tell it was a near perfect match) and even with the remaining velour stripes on the door panels. I'm attaching a picture as reference.

WEST TRADING
WEST TRADING Either of those look like it? You can order samples. The non ribbed green velour I did not see. I think you need both to make a cover.

You might try contacting these folks:
WEST TRADING I picked up a reference to them from a post here, that had mentioned that they were very helpful and not extremely expensive. I believe they will only ship to a "business" but you can "start your own" or have it sent to someone who will be doing the work. BTW, they do carry the dark olive color for your year. (I'm dealing with a fabric interior as well. In Palomino.)

That is exactly what I did. Maybe you were referring to my posts. I originally came across it on the pelican Porsche forum. They are pretty fast and the bank transfer went smoothly .
