The covering on the pilars of my 1991 420 sel has been torn by the seatbelt height adjuster. How should I repair the problem?

You definitely need professional help if you want professional results. I had the exact same thing happen on my 86 420SEL. I asked my mechanic if he knew anyone who could fix it and he gave me the name of an upholstery guy. I gave the guy a call and he came to my house and fixed it in my driveway. I had the tear by the seatbelt fixed, a 3/4 inch crack on the dashboard fixed and a major tear on the door of the DeVille we used to own for $150. The guy was amazing. It took him about an hour to do all three. He matched the colours perfectly (all three were different). It is now two years later and I can't pinpoint exactly where the crack in the dashboard was or where the seatbelt tear was, you just can't see them.

I agree with Jason.
If you are not experienced with this sort of thing and try to do it on your own, you will defintly need a whole panel replacement and they are not cheap. On my car, dent wizard recently worked on it and instead of removing the bottom screws and pulling upwards to remove it, they must have pulled straight out and broke the plastic clip. To top it off they superglued this plastic peice to make it stay, when I drove the car home, it keep sqeeking and squeeking and then i took it apart and found out what the problem is. Its hard to prove this sort of thing in court, so instead of going through court BS over a few hundred bucks, I will just pay for it out of my pocket. I tried to "rig" it so it would stay in place but it wont so I need to go out and buy another one. Its going to cost about $350.00 for that plastic peice with MB tex wrapped around it. If you know of a way to "rig" it before tue or wed comes along, please let me know. |

Did you try to superglue the plastic clip part back onto the door skin? That's all I can think of, using the Super Glue Gel. Mine squeak too (all of them) but I never have tried to stop it; it is very annoying though.

Robert,
When I took it apart they superglued it but didnt do a good job. I cleaned off the old glue, then used super glue, then use a heavy duty tape to stick it just to make sure, and it works great on both sides, I cant hear them anymore. Thanks. |
