At the risk of betraying my ignorance, am wondering if anyone can tell me whether the seats in a 92 300E are leather or vinyl. Had always assumed they were leather and have been using leather cleaners and polishers on the surfaces. My doubts were awakened when a friend expressed disbelief and puzzlement to find vinyl seats in a Mercedes. Told her I was sure they were leather. But after closer examination and a reference in this forum to 'MB Tex,' I'm wondering if in fact, despite the distinctive smell, the seats are all vinyl or at least mostly vinyl. If that's the case what do you use to keep them clean? Perhaps that's why they've worn so well in a 10 year old car?

All 300Es from 90-95 had leather standard. Only exceptions were the 300E 2.6, 300E 2.8, and 300TEs/E320 Wagons. These had MB Tex standard with leather optional.

Leather or Vinyl in 92 300E
Thanks for your response. Reassuring to think the leather cleaners and polishers I've been using are helpful, after all!

There should be a plate under the hood on which are stamped various numerical codes. These indicate the features of your car, including seating materials. I can email you the code list but it may also be lurking in the archives as well.

RPalens,
Would you mind emailing them to me as well? I would really appreciate it. THanks again. :) |
bluedog79,
Do yourself and your interior a favor...if you have leather use Leatheriqe and nothing else. The stuff is magic and will outperform anything else on the market. If it turns out you have tex, then use Lexol Vinylex. |
