Hello All;

This is a very informative forum, and I have gleaned much useful information from reading these pages. Thanks to all who contribute.

I was thinking about this on a whim, but I was wondering if anyone has experience converting his or her 79 300CD headlights to Halogen or Xenon. Are those types of units available to fit the 300 CD (123.250 chassis)? Should I replace the fog lights too? What are the caveats folks have experienced? Is it easy for a beginner D.I.Y.? Should I just stick with the standard replacement bulbs? I would like to keep the car looking as original as possible, but doing a good deal of rural driving in the dark has forced me to look into a brighter headlight alternative.

Any suggestions or opinions would be appreciated. Even if the suggestion is for a more appropriate forum for this post. Thanks All.

Moraine;

Thanks for the info. Any suggestions on where on-line to get the H4s at a reasonable price?

Also, I have been searching and reading the myriad articles about lighting here on this sight. Many of them have given me some things to consider regarding the headlights. I am in agreement that I do not want to use 'Euro' lights but rather the standard US ones (without having to fiddle with increased wire gauges and fuses, etc.)

Thanks again,
James

I had put the Hella Vision Plus on my '77 300D. I bought mine at a local (National Auto) store. They cost about $40 each. The lighting pattern was definitely superior to the stock sealed beams, and the car still looked pretty much stock. Most euros, including the Hellas, were flat, as opposed to the slightly convex surface of the stock lamps. Still, a worthwhile modification. The Cibie E-codes should be even better. Hope this helps,

Thanks Guys - - BTW Cibie E Codes?

Thank you all. Robert, pls explain Cibie E Codes...

I have bought a pair of Hellas (hb2's). The H4's are deemed "for off-road use only" here in Pennsylvania. The HB2s are DOT compliant. Very easy install, and greatly improve night vision abiliy. Thanks for your help.

Hey Robert, we are almost neighbors, I live a few counties away in Philadelphia !

Thanks again guys.

This website explains E-codes far better than I can... http://lighting.mbz.org

James, welcome, and "howdy neighbor" :) Hope you enjoy your 300CD.
