Cleaning interior surfaces

I really have never cleaned the interior of my car.. it doesnt get dirty.. just my books from school ya know..

but on the arm rests and other plastic panels they have some grime or nasty crap and get sticky when it is humid out.. as well as the steering wheel..

its.. nasty?

What kind of cleaner should I use.. a Mr.Clean magic eraser or something citrus based...

I do need to re glue the drivers side C pillar to the mbtex and somehow fix it so it doesn't pop out of place. it appears to have been broken from the tabs... maybe some jb weld.. mwhahaha

303

Thats all I have ever had to use. But I am very easy on my cars interiors and don't eat in them.

When I first got my wagon, the interior was pretty dirty. I used Armorall vinyl cleaner with a nail brush to get the dirt out of the folds in the seats. When I sprayed it on the armrest and the top edges of the door panels, it looked like I sprayed bleach on it since it made the grime come off so easily. I don't think there is any problem with this cleaner (you wipe it off with a damp rag anyway) and I use 303 for protection. I also used a Mr Clean Magic eraser for all the plastic that can get kicked with your shoes, it took all the black scuffs off like ..uhh.. magic, and it took the white scum off my black exterior side trim too (I think it was years of old wax buildup).

About a week after a thorough interior cleaning, my car smelled neutral inside. It used to smell like diesel and oil which I kind of like, but the wife wasn't into it.

I can't get any 303 products locally, I have to order them online. The Armorall cleaner was available at Pepboys and is cheaper than 303.

On the MBTex and other vinyl/mbtex, whatever the heck the material is (eg headliner, overhead hand rails, etc.) I used the fast orange wipes which worked really well for getting the built up black stuff over the top of my palomino.

With the seats out so I can rinse them afterwards, I like using Fast Orange Hand Cleaner. This stuff works great on MB Tex. Also works great on Tar stains.

Fantastik all-purpose (white bottle / green label) cleans up everything (although not tar). It'll take off years of grime. The smell is a little strong, but better to the senses than Armour All.

Big Ditto on that one!

I used it to detail everything but the glass and fabric (carpets and headliner) on my 84 300TD. It cleaned amazingly well!

For reference, the car was used as a school bus for 5 years prior to my purchase of it.

I also used it to clean some donor interior parts from a 300D that had been sitting for several years with the windows open. It was basically a combination squirrel nest and small pond. You can't imagine how filthy the parts were, but you never know it now.

I used Megire's #40 and a tooth brush on my interior. Its a cleaner/conditioner. I bought it at NAPA. They make a #39 thats suppose to be strickly a cleaner. You would need some type of protectorent like 303 or the #40 after it. A medium or firm tooth brush work well. I bought 303 at ACE hardware. I haven't used it yet though.

Ummm...act of stupidity...knelt in some, looking under the car while in the parking lot, brushed off but did not realize the tar was now smeared and attached to my hand, leaned in the driver side to get some thing out of the passenger seat, braced my self by putting said hand on the edge of the seat by the console...then still did not check and then sat in it. Now little black spots in the seat...

Whitewall tire cleaner

I have cleaned the interior of both my cars with Wesley's Sure Wonder White, a product designed to clean the white sidewall of tire. It works great, it is very low cost, spray it on and wipe it off with a damp cloth and grease, grime and whatever else gets on the MB Tex is gone. I buy the spray bottle, then when I need more I get the 1/2 gallon jug to refill the spray bottle. Available at most part stores, Autozone and WallyWorld.

"Great Stuff" at Wal-Mart worked pretty well for me. I've only used it on MB-Tex.... not real leather though. I have a picture at the house of the difference it made cleaning the seats of the 190D I had.
