Sunroof headliner not moving

'87 300E

I asked this question on the tech forum and got no response so maybe i should have asked it here...my sunroof seems to be working fine but the part of the headliner that should move with the sunroof is detached or something - it doesn't move at all. Does anyone know how this piece of the headliner attaches to the underside of the sunroof? Or is it like a moonroof and i need to slide that piece back to see daylight? I don't want to mess up the headliner by forcing it back...

I haven't seen the unit on the 124, but it should be similar to the 201. The sunroof headliner should move with the roof. On my 201, there were several plastic push clips on the front leading edge of the headliner panel.

If you can retract your roof, slide it all the back back, then pull the headliner out the top of the car. Check for any interferences, then slide it back in. Then you can close the roof halfway or so and clip the 2 units back together.

Thanks Adam! Are the clips broken or have they just become detached with use?

Mine were broken. Plastic clips are pretty cheap, I would buy new before tearing into it, just to be on the safe side.

Um...just did a quick search online but couldn't find anyone selling those clips. Is this a dealership item only?

There are 4 sets of clips, probably dealer only.

001 988 09 81 | Fastener Button Upper Part | Qty. 4
001 988 10 81 | Fastener Button Lower Part | Qty. 4
