It's pretty easy to break things like that when you don't know how such things are held in place. I try to not yank, bang, push too hard, etc. on stuff like that, but it still happens sometimes.

I recently used a small amount of epoxy to adhere the plastic piece into the little area into which the plastic piece slides, and it works very well.

The little pin that holds mine on (or used to) is the least of my problems. I have to see if I can successfully refinish it first. It's in pretty bad shape, the polyurethane is falling off in chunks.

Guilty as charged here also. Not every one has access to the books, nor has done it before.

Mine was already broken when I got it. I would NEVER be heavy-handed . . .

I tried slamming my sun roof repeatedly to get it to close all the way. Was that wrong?

Dakota, how does that shifter get installed? I heard someone say that it has to be disconnected/reconnected from underneath the car on a Mercedes.

I have a friend who wanted to change hers, and that's what her mechanic told her.

The knob? Its as simple as taking the console apart and loosening a nut, twisting handle, then tightening nut, and reassembly.

Oh, the way I heard it, it sounded much more complicated than that. Seems like it would just unscrew from the top.

Thumbs up

To replace the WHOLE shifter mechanism, knob/plastic shifter etc, you do have to go under the car and attach the bushing shift lever to the transmission with like a clip. I only bought the wood burl shift cover and knob from a guy on Ebay. Though i DO have the WHOLE shifter replacement to put in as well. I just hate going under car as i have no jack stands or lifters...Its supposed to be a fairly uncompicated thing i read somewhere..prolly here

Okay. That sounds like what I was told before. I have a long way to go before I'm down to worrying about stuff like gear shift knobs. . . .
