Chrome Cleaner

I was just wondering if there is any chemical that I can buy to bring back the shine in my 84 300 D. My grille is looking a bit tired and worn out. Any suggestions??

Use a pumice hand cleaner like GoJo to do the heavy cleaning and a good off the shelf chrome polish to make it shine.

That chrome stack I posted on the other thread, it used to be badly stained by baked on exhaust soot and other nasty road things to the point it looked like an old galvanized pipe rather than chrome.

About an hour of scrubbing and polishing brought it back to new except for the underside where the chrome was corroded off.

I went through an entire bag of red cloth shop rags when I cleaned my pipe. Probably not the best choice to use, but it was the best I had available at the time.

A stiff bristle tooth brush would work well. Remember to swirl!

What about the aluminum trim? Is there anything good for cleaning that up?

Be careful with the Mag & Aluminum Polish -- though it is a great polish for bare metals, it is a tad aggressive for chrome -- try their Chrome Polish instead, and work your way up in aggressiveness, if necessary, to combat corrosion, neglect, or age.

Frequent use of a good, light Chrome Polish will maintain the finish and offer protection. Mag Polish offers no protection.

Nev-R-Dull is good, and safe also, in my experience. I especially like it to clean up and polish the air cleaner lid on the engine. It works very well for that.

remove it and have it reanodized ... that is what I have been told...

The trim on the doors is a pita to remove since it was the second thing put on those doors

the window trim.. well.. the windows have to come out to have that re-done...

I am out of mothers polish so I was planning on getting some chrome stuff from them or the Meguiars polish for all metals.. it claims it can remove oxidation from anodized aluminum.

Well, let me know if it works on that, would you, Joe? I don't think I'll go through the time and effort of removing the trim and reanodizing it.
