04 CL500 Plastic Melting

Has anyone ever heard of the plastic buttons on the steering wheel turning all sticky and gatherring fluff and stuff. I have tried everything to clean it off even GooOff and all that did was take the paint off leaving me with more sticky stuff.

Ugh, sucks

This happens to alot of newer model Mercs. And as far as I know there is nothing much you can do except keep it out from the sun as often as possible. Ofcoz that's easier to be said than done. We tried replacing all of our rubber buttons throughout the car on the S-class but it quickly turn all sticky again. So that is something we have to live with I guess...:mad:

I wonder what the material is that these buttons are made out of? That really shouldn't happen, especially on cars of this caliber!

I believe that "cars of this caliber" are relative. I think its common knowledge that newer benz's are not "of that caliber" of say, the 80's mercedes. its a damn shame.

S and CL classes should not have a problem with melting plastic buttons!

If you pay north of $50-60,000 for a car, it IS "of that caliber" in MY book. I know what you mean, though. MB's poor quality control in recent years is a sad situation.
