MY wood is toast too, all I'm going to do is paint it body color. I'm not a big fan of wood trim...

I just almost went the paint it black route! The junkyard lady wanted 50 bucks for the pieces I had removed and I said "keep 'em"! Then the next time I came in she sold them to me for 5 dollars...which was cheaper than spray paint.

The wood looks OK, but frankly, I'm used to looking at plastic wood in cars. So the gin-u-wine imitation wood doesn't bother me much. At least not enough to fork over hundreds of bucks for matching Zebrano wood trim....there's other things in life, like food and new shotguns!!

It will be interesting to see if the clear coat sticks to the vinyl and doesn't attack it. It certainly looks different than stock, but a good substitute IMHO.

Im curious to see how the clear sticks also, from what I have read it should stick, people clear over vinyl decals and stickers on cars without a problem, the shop I own/work at has a paint booth and HVLP spray guns and all the fun stuff so shouldnt be hard to spray and make the nice, and if it doesnt work out in the end o well Ive lost nothing except for a little time and effort and it it works and looks nice then it will be an easy cheap way for people to fix there's thats damaged beyond normal repair

Getting the color even isn't to bad, but MB sprays the wood in a booth, with what looks like poly. There finish is totaly dust free which is amazing.
Tell me about it ... I've been stripping my console pieces for about two months now. I got a lot of it off chemically (probably 20+ coats of stripper, each left overnight in bags), but for the past couple weeks have been razorblading it off and carefully sanding. I pulled out one chunk of veneer with the finish, about 3mmX2mm ... I spent the next half-hour seperating that broken-off chunk from the finish so I can glue it back in. I'm getting really close to having both pieces bare (not bothering with the ashtray since I ousted it for a boost gauge). Now I can take on the finish color ... doesn't have to be dead-on since there are no original-finish pieces left in the car. I'm planning on buying an HVLP gun and hitting it with pre-cat laquer. Old stuff was definately a polyester or plastic, and there's no way I have the means to put that kind of finish on it. Nitrocell seems to soft for the job so I'm hoping precat will do better for me. What a project ...

"Scienctifically" You spell like I do.......

Aren't you glad you don't have to worry about wood in my favorite little Green Euro 240?
