I’d like to remove the window tinting film from the rear window of my ’94 C280 as it’s peeling a bit in spots. I’m concerned because I don’t want to lift the rear defroster strips from the glass. Does anyone know the bast way to remove tint?
Thanks. |
Scrape some of the film with a stainless razor blade. Stainless is not supposed to scratch glass. Try some 3M adhesive remover and work it as if you were removing wallpaper. Be patient and have a supply of cold beer on hand. I suggest Modello or Tecate(Mexican) with a sqeeze of lime for the summer months.

Make sure its cold HEINEKEN or FOSTERs.
You'd get better results. :D |
If you're not careful with the razor blade, you could accidentally cut across one of the defroster elements, rendering it useless.
I've seen the pros strip off the old tint with a professional grade blow dryer (heat gun). The tint is usually easy to remove...it's the adhesive that's left behind that is a mess to get rid of! The blow dryer works best in those situations. |
