I got my open spoke AMG wheels, so now it's on to painting the brake calipers. I think I'll paint mine red as soon as I can get the POR stuff. Thanks for your recommendations. I'll post some pictures when I'm done.

I may be a pimp when it comes to my car, but I like to think I have SOME sense of decorum . . . .

I wouldn't put on my brakes either. I painted my 500E calipers Siver, and they look cool through my wheels.

I like red ones and yellow ones because they seem to add a little color to the car, especially if your car is white, gray or black.

Did you use the POR stuff, Justin?

Don't they make a caliper painting kit? It has stuff to clean the rust and stuff off of them and then then paint that is high heat resistant.

I used Brake Cleaner, a wire wheel, elbow grease, and high temperature paint. It looks good, and I did it for like $7.....

The calipers still look good after a good deal of abuse.

Maybe I'll do mine that way. Somebody (I think it's POR ) has a kit with some kind of cleaner in it and the high heat paint, but it's about $40.00 I think. It might be a lot faster.

It worked for me.

Hi, I regard to painting the Brake Calipers, my '76 SLC chrome wheels which exposed the calipers.
I removed calipers, placed a rubber tube between the pads (as resistance) then screwed in a bolt to fluid hole.
I cleaned and used a grinder with wire brush, mini angle grinder/ sander lowering courseness to remove scratches. Then Brake caliper paint (Spray can) Heat resistant Extreme.
Under coat X 3 coats 10 to 15 min between coats. (touch dry)
A colour coat X 3 coats as above.
I also wanted to paint the calipers the same colour as my car so I then added,
3 normal Enamel coats maybe longer between coats.
Then 3 clear coats also enamel, hardenner was added to all enamel coats ( as in enamel paints)
They look sweet, I was told heat paint would diffuse the heat therefore not burn the enamel paint. Its been 8 months now and all good.
This was all done in my own garage.
While I was at it i painted the hub as shown in image. Shame I never cleaned before the photo.
Good Luck
Tony

That looks great, Tony. The POR kit sounds faster and easier. I think I'll go that route. It only costs $30-40.00.
