How to remove a stuck cigar lighter?

The cigar lighter in the back seat of my SEC is stuck. I'd like to be able to plug something into it, but can't get it out. Is there some trick to this?

I don't recall what I did when mine got stuck in the front ashtray, just keep trying! See if you can rotate it too.

It looks like a black button. Mine doesn't stick out at all like most I've encountered. The front ashtray has none at all. I just want to get it out so I can use it to plug a Sirius radio into it.

Can you remove the whole unit (ash tray) and get it from the back side?

You can remove the ashtray as a unit. The rear tray/lighter assembly has no wires for power. Just metal contacts. So with the ashtray in your hand spank it a few times.
I had to do this to dislodge my old lighter. Found several unused ones in my travels. So I was able to put a good one in. Just for looks mind you 'cause i do not smoke.

I used a knife under the edge of the lighter. Twist, and it will pop out.

Thanks. Yes, I have had it out. I'll try the knife under the edge as well as "spanking" it.
