Is sealant the same thing as wax?

I'm planning on using Jet Seal sealant after I polish my red E320 soon. Is that also a wax? Do I need to put wax over the sealant? Is that redundant?

Sealants are not waxes, and waxes are not sealants. I prefer a sealant to a wax. You do not need to apply both.

As mentioned, wax and sealant are not the same. Part of the confusion comes from the rather casual use of these terms, sometimes even by manufacturers and suppliers themselves. But wax is generally understood to mean a natural-based product like carnauba, extracted from Brazilian palm tree leaves, whereas sealants are synthetic acrylics, manufactured from long-chain polymers. Each one accomplishes the same purpose--to put a protective coating on the finish of your car. No need to use both, although concourse cars often have carnauba over sealant, b/c some people believe that sealants lack the same "wet" look of quality carnauba waxes, so a top coat of wax is supposed to provide that look. Frankly, my eye apparently isn't good enough to detect that difference.

So I guess I can safely polish and then use the Jetseal (and no wax) and accomplish the same protection from UV damage and acid rain? I'm not looking for that "show car" look although a nice sheen or luster is a great plus that I wouldn't mind. I just want to make sure the (red) paint on my E320 is well-protected from the environment. That Jetseal comes highly recommended from a lot of people I've spoken to and forum participants.

As long as you avoid using any products containing petroleum-distillates, I'm down with it. I'm not familiar with Jetseal, and I quit using wax decades ago.

I'm a believer in Wizards Products because they work, and they are also water-based, using no wax. Been using them for years, and buy them direct via the Internet.

Their Mist 'N Shine used as my final detail for paint, glass, chrome and plastic, has no equal in my opinion. I use their products on my motorcycle, Mercedes-Benz and diesel motorcoach that I travel in over-the-road.

But getting back to preventive measures, I'm a big fan of seeking shade, whenever you are parking your car in the out-of-doors. I have literally kept my Mercedes-Benz cars looking close to showroom new, by simply always seeking shade whatever the time of the day is when parking. I also garage my Mercedes-Benz when at home, of course. Unfortunately, my diesel motorcoach is exposed to the elements 365 days......however, at home I have two large shade trees that shade it most of the daylight hours.

Appearance is paramount to me and the vehicles I drive for business and pleasure, as I want them to reflect the detail I give to them.

Some wax companies may call some of their wax products paint sealants.

However, sealant can mean a very different thing. In my 1992 300D, there are sealants on many places.
There is a very easily visible area. When I open the shiny painted fuel tank door, I can see it.
This kind of sealant is not supposed to be applied on shiny clear coated exterior. It is not supposed to be applied by owner, either. It is applied in factory, or it might be applied after a collision repair.
