560SL inner door panel

I have had the driver side panel off a couple of times and replaced it successfully. I tried to remove it yesterday to make a window adjustment but ran into a problem.

The metal tab in the center of the panel, the one attached to the rear of the armrest that engages with the slot on the door itself, has somehow come adrift. No matter how I turn the panel after removing all other fasteners, I cannot disengage it thus am unable to remove the panel. There is no screw holding the armrest rear, only the one holding the front.

I have replaced the panel for the time being but would really like to remove it. At this point it seems that I must destroy the panel to remove it. Anyone with a better idea or a similar experience?

The way I remember this, the beaverboard eventually failed on one of mine, and basically I had to break the remainder of the board to get it out (VERY, VERY carefully).

I patched in a new piece of thps type of pressed board and it's OK so far.
