Wood restoration 84 300SD
I am completly restoring my 84 300SD. My center consol wood (around the shifter) was badly cracked. I removed the thin layer of veneer and just stained and refinished the wood underneath. The new finish looks great but the wood grain is not the same as the stock Zebrano. I want to get as close to original as possible. does anyone know if just the thin layer of Zebrano veneer can be purchased any where? Even in sheet formate, I ok with making the final cuts.
Thanks, TL |

What your looking for is called zebrano or zebrawood. Constantine's has it and oakwoodveneer.com does too.
However, the bad news is that matching the existing wood used by MB 26 years ago will likely be impossible. As a natural product wood varies in appearance (even in the same tree!). A lot of things change over time. With wood if there's demand then new growth is pushed and the result is a change in the appearance. Good luck. Corrected to include Constantine's as a supplier. Sorry. Apologies to lorainfurniture. Last edited by RichardM98; 03-31-2010 at 09:25 AM. |
