Proceed with Care
Quote:
I did this job three weeks ago, and I strongly suggest that you follow this advice about being careful with the plastic frames. During removal one of my plastic frames developed a hairline crack near where it attaches to the seatback , despite my best efforts to go gently. I've attached an "after" photo. I don't have a "before" photo, but they were among the saggiest I've seen. |

I did this today on my 84 SD. Extremely easy. I just pried the little metal crimp off one side, pulled the loose cord through about 4-5", re-crimped it, cut the loose end off and reinstalled. I don't have the elasticity that you would have if you replaced the old cord with new bungee, however I'm not going to store anything back there. All I care about is that they don't sag anymore.
I also replaced the b-pillar covers, cleaned my ALDA banjo bolt and tomorrow will finish up by replacing the c-pillar covers, retrofitting in rear headrests and repairing the cracks in my dash. I found a good donor 560SEL at Sun Valley Mercedes Dismantlers last week that had an interior in good condition that matched my color. By Monday it will be a new car!
