Couple questions

I have attached a couple of pictures from the interior of my 85 300TD. I am really new to this car and I am trying to figure some things out.

What is the purpose of the contraption on top of the 2nd row seats (60/40)? I purchased some headrests for the 2nd row, but how are they installed?

Is the map holder behind the drivers and passenger seats something that can be replaced? I REALLY hate the look without the map holder.

Thanks,
George

George, it appears the luggage nets and fasteners are still available from Mercedes.

Luggage nets (2): P/N 126-810-02-49-8326 ($44.25 ea)
Screws (4): 001-984-85-29 ($0.75 ea)
Washers (4): 301-990-00-42 ($3.75 ea)

If the seat back paneling to which the nets attach has been damaged (the photo looks like maybe one of the attaching holes has been torn out), those are also still available:

123-910-44-39-8320 ($39.00 ea)

Please note, the nets and paneling are color coded, thereby adding the last 4 digits to the part number (8326 & 8320). That color code is a guess on my part, judging by the "Date" color of the seat back in your photo. However, you need to confirm your trim code to be sure. Also, the prices I gave are advertised prices from a large MB dealership that does a lot of I-net business. MB listed retail prices are 25% higher. You might also check with Fastlane Phil (the forum sponsor) if you haven't already. HTH

Sorry I can't help with the headrest question.
