Wood Trim refurbishment veneer?

I'm thinking of re-furbishing my wood trim some time in the near future, and I want to do it in some sort of very dark exotic wood 'look'.

I was thinking something like Teac or Ebony or cherry, maybe even rosewood.

I personally wouldn't do Ebony. It would tend to look like black plastic. Think of the keys on a piano. Any of the others would be great based on your car's interior color.

Are you going to buy the pieces aftermarket or try to make them yourself?

I can do veneer, it aren't hard I'm just not sure if I'm going to go thru the trouble of removing the old veneer or just lay over top, depending on how thin I can get it.

The wood under all of that clearcoat is very, very thin. It may not be that hard to remove. It always amazed me how woodcrafty the Germans are.

I gave my trim a good once over in the sun today, and the console pieces have a little bit of curl around the edges, so I think ta'hell with the original veneer, I'll block the clear down till all the cracks and curl are evened out and lay new veneer. The rest of the trim is more of the same, without the curl, just clearcoat cracks....I'm going to quiz some of the wood shops around town and see what I can find

Very interested to hear more on this. I have wood trim in my cars that I would love to 'refresh'.

Have you thought about using a medium/dark stain? This might give a similar effect with out looking like black plastic.

Carbon fibre is sexy too, but perhaps only in a more modern car. I really like the wood grain in these classic sedans/wagons.

Go with brazilian rosewood if you can find it. This is what it looks like finished, no stain needed

That is very nice. Where'd you get the wood from?
