RAIN-X

Rain-x is a lifesaver! I have driven through downpours which has everyone else over on the shoulder....all it looks like to me is a light fog, and without even using the wipers!

Apply to a VERY clean windshield with a dustless cloth, shop towel or paper towel. Allow to dry, takes only a couple of minutes. Whether you sprinkle water or not doesn't matter to the end result, it's just easier to move the towel with water.

Dry and polish with another dustless towel, being sure to eliminate any streaking. Whole process takes ten minutes. I only bother with the windshield.

Regards,

Tom

Rain-X

Rain-X is one product that truly delivers on it's promise. It's also kind of cool to watch the water run off the windshield when it rains. (yes, I'm easily amused) With Rain-X I rarely use the wipers and always have them on intermittent. It is we'll worth the $ and the small amount of time required to apply. If you're a nut about clean window's like I am, it's the greatest.

You do have to REALLY clean the windshield prior to application. I do use the approach of 2 coats and a wipe with first a wet paper towel and then a dry one.

PS, my experience with the Rain-X windshield washer fluid is that it merely extends the life of your Rain-X application. It is not a replacement for the real thing

OK, mark me down as a BIG Rain X fan. Use it on all 4 cars, rarely do we use the wipers. Big key, as mentioned above, is a clean windshield. I believe the reason for the water AND for the second coat is to make SURE you get the whole windshield covered. Here's another one for you:

My wife uses it on the shower glass. Keeps them from getting water spotted. Water runs right off!

I’m a big fan of Rain-X as well. I use paper towels, and wear surgical exam gloves when applying it as I got a mild from it once. In fact I use surgical gloves for almost all work on a car. Only bad thing about Rain-x is that when used on the front windshield the effectiveness drops off the fastest for obvious reasons. I gave up using it there but put it on the rear facing glass. I clean the windows thoroughly, and then clean them again prior to application. I consider the windows clean when there is no sign of dirt on the paper towels after application of cleaner. One other thing I’ve found is that if you Rain-X it per the directions but don’t do the final buff, it will last a week or so longer before the ability to sluff off water when pulling away from a stop ends. Only bad news is that the window may be hazy for a day or 2, or until the first good rain.

Wink Rain X on inside of windows

I saw a question about using Rain X on the inside of the windows. I have heard harsh warnings not to do this. Water vapor will fog the inside and the Rain X is practically impossible to remove.

1. I am a believer in Rain-X on the windshield. Sheds water and makes the wipers run smoother.
2. I couldn't make the Fog-X (or whatever it's called) work either. What's worse, I couldn't get it off. Web site say's to remove it using water. Didn't work. (BTW, Isn't window fog water?)
3. The Rain-X WSW fluid was pink last year. Froze solid at 27 degrees. (Label says zero degrees). This year, I notice it's orange. No idea if that works or not.

Thumbs up Big fan for Rain X beyond cars

I am a big Rain-X fan too! Although I don't use it to replace my windshield wiper, but to enhance it. Most of us that have the mono wiper Mercedes know with a new wiper blade the windshield will stay clear for about a month and it starts to streak. I use Rain-X and I don't see the streaking for a LONG time! Even when the wiper is on its last legs.

BTW, for those of us that use a pda, (E.g. Palm Pilot, Handspring Visors...etc.) It works great on the screens too! I got this tip off the Palm bulletin boards. It makes the writing much easier and fend off the scratches on the screen.

I am never without Rain-X in my house.

I'm not sure what caused the problems for others, but it works GREAT for me -- just super. I apply it and buff it off with my orbital buffer (because the one issue is that it must ALL be buffed back off) and it works great. Use it on the back window, too, and you'll always have a clear view out.

I saw that segment many years ago on 60 minutes where Andy Rooney blasted Rain X. I had just started using Rain X and I knew that Rooney had no idea what he was talking about. Rain X is great stuff! Rooney can be mildly amusing but I wouldn't put much stock into any product reviews he may give. Just because he is on network television does not necessarily make him intellligent.

Rain X

Rain X works great.... unless

A. It's snowing.
B. You use your windshield wipers.

Obviously it doesn't work in the snow, otherwise they'd call it Rain/Snow X. It works great until you NEED to use the wipers, then it will eventually wipe away the Rain X. It works good for the back window's have some have suggested.

For those who haven't tried it, apply it only to the passenger side of the windshield to easily test the effectiveness of it. You will immediately see the difference in a rain storm and quickly apply it to the drivers side also, as well as all the other windows.

It is also great to apply to your eyeglasses. They stay cleaner and are easier to clean. An excellent product!

How do you remove Rain-X® Glass Treatment from exterior glass?
Rain-X® Glass Treatment can be removed from exterior glass by using either Rain-X® Glass Polish (Under "Glass Cleaner") or Bon-Ami Cleaning Powder or Soft Scrub cleaner. (Bon-Ami Cleaning Powder is sold at True Value Hardware Stores and Ace Hardware Stores. It can be obtained by calling Agelong Catalog at 1-800-892-8022. If you cannot find this product, Bon-Ami Cleanser - a different product - can be used, only if you add enough water to make it a "soapy" solution). If you require further assistance or have any additional questions, please call 1-800-416-1600.
Above from the rain-x web site.

I've been using Rain-X since 1968 on vehicle exterior windows, head/fog/driving lights and mirrors. It works very well once some speed is reached. In addition to water and dirt removal, it also aids in releasing deceased insects and some ice. I'm doing well when I can go further than 4-500 miles between applications.

For what it is worth I have never really liked rain-X. Of course I have only used it on really old cars and that may have had some effect. Hearing Andy Rooney thinks it does not work makes we want to try it. I think i still have it do you think it is still good it is from about 1984 or so.
