W123 Seat Height Adjust

My '79 300D has front seat height adjusters, but I an not get them to go up. The lever moves but I can't slide the seat up as the manual states. They probably have not moved in years. Any advise?

Sometimes you need to scoot your butt forwards or backwards a bit to get it to do what you want! You don't get a direct up or down motion from this 'facility'.

I had to remove my seats to get to the tracks. Removed almost 30 years of grime and some loose change. I think a dime in the track was what locked it from moving. Used a lot of WD40 to clean and lube before I got them loose - one track at a time.

Get someone in the back seat to push the seat (from the bottom so you don't break the seatback) while you pull the lever up. Work it back and forth and it should free up.

I vote for removing, cleaning and re-lubing. You can probably force it loose while in the car, but it'll just settle back into the goo again and freeze up.

I ended up needing a mallet on the removed seat track to break it free. And there was also some change bonded into it with the decades of spilled soda and coffee.

I think there is also a part under the seat that needs to be properly aligned. In my first re-assembly I didn't get it right and only one side released with the handle. It's possible that both tracks are not being released. Inspect with a flashlight to make sure both rails are being released via the handle.
