Mine move slightly forward or back...

You mean to tell me they're supposed to do something else? Up would be great...

On my 300E, the passenger seat head rest does not work at all (i.e. no noise from the motor at all). The driver's headrest motor works and will raise the head rest if it starts at the very bottom, but will not go back down unless physically pushed down. (Maybe a track or gear issue with motor?)

I have been looking at wiring diagrams recently for the front two seats. It seems that the headrest itself for the 1989 300E, at least, is actually powered by a relay. Perhaps the relays are mostly going bad by now in these cars.

The relays are located under the driver's seat for both the driver's head rest and the passenger's head rest.

Headrest Gears

If it turns out that the problem is broken gears in these headrests (like mine was in my '99SL) contact Odometer Gears at ...

http://www.odometergears.com/index.html

I got my resplacement drive gears from him; fast service; reasonable prices; excellent fit; great warranty.

Bob
