Here are more photos of how the sunshade is mounted:

Thanks, that's very helpful. Still looking for the right material for the bottom bracket.
I am thinking of using picture hanging hooks for the top edge rear glass seal. |

Those would work but I fear if you bend the top "bar" of the "J" hook to the opposite side, it might weaken the metal.

Perhaps if I use a "real long" version....cut the "hook" on the bottom, will still leave me with a straight edge long enough for me to reform the hook, but facing the other way. |

You might be able to get away with that.
But the installation instructions were too simple. The hooks had to be placed in front of a wedge tool (supplied with the kit) and inserted into the rubber windshield seal between the glass and rubber. The "bar" on the hook will grip on the wedge as you push it in, and once it's inside the rubber seal you have to hold the hook in place while you retract the installation wedge tool. If you don't hold the hooks in place they will just retract with the wedge tool and you'll have to do it again. This is also why I emphasize you do not want to weaken the metal.

OK, thanks for the info.
But I will have to make the bottom brackets 1st & install, before I can even attempt to install the top hooks. |

I did comprehensive searches but found very little info on the rear sunshade of W123 and W201 models. There were threads here and there but nothing much. Most of those who got one in their W123 or W201 use an aftermarket unit, so hopefully with more detail into what can be fabricated to mount the aftermarket units the "proper" way, we no longer have to drill holes. Also in hindsight putting on the rear sunshade on my W123 essentially negates my future plan to put in a palomino colored third brake light assembly due to space constraints.

I am still debating on which method;
a) your bracket method The only two pieces of aluminum I could find that could work was 7-8' long pieces & ~$10 (taxes incl) each. The thicker one comes in 1/2", 3/4" & 1" width. The thinner one comes one width only, needs to be trimmed. Also I don't have a bench vise, that'll be another $80. After $100, still no guarantee it'll work. b) drill holes + 4 threaded spacers + 4 screws $5 total, guarantee will work. Wouldn't look too bad either. Can be easily removed. You can place shade more forward to allow you to install the 3rd brake light. |

Good points, well let us know how that goes.

Well, I already have mine installed
You could also make the spring mount a little longer to clear the 3rd brake light.

Back to finish this off.
Found a couple of these brackets I thought would be perfect & it sure was. Flatten the bracket at one end & cut with dremel so bracket fits around the speaker. Painted the brackets black & installed them. Tie wrapped the rear sunshade to the brackets. Now have front & rear sunshades. |

You'll probably cringe.
I attach each with a screw & to the roof liner.... There is a metal rib/ridge that runs across laterally. So it's very sturdy & sunshade covers all the way up to roof line. |
