1986 Kit Wax

So, I found this bottle of wax downstairs in the old farmhouse. Purchased at KMART a really long time ago. I have always used car soap that had wax in it....you know, kinda like shampoo and condition in one:).

So Just for giggles I waxed my car. Holy Potato(e) Dan Quayle. That paint really came back to life. I wish hand waxing wasn't such a long drawn out process or It would never not be waxed. Its like 75% of the scratches just disappeared.

No Way "Just Wax" did that good a Job.

You've had that chassis resprayed!

thayer 03-20-2011 08:42 AM

What do you mean by resprayed? repainted? I didn't...the previous owner said that this is not the original paint, and that the job was done "well" by a painter who typically does higher end sports cars. Now I have no idea what that means...BUT...the clearcoat on this baby is like still water on a quiet Bahama midnight.

Nice job, nice result. They don't come more classic than a black 126!

That baby had a really good wet sand. Better appearance than OEM.

No, just a proper machine polish.

Pillar of salt or not - that is one smart looking car...

...though it would look friendlier without the tinted FBI windows - or is that the intention?

Alla Dat Aside

Sure is a Beautiful effect.

The tinting is to help out that old R4 compressor. Black 126 with a 134 conversion (for now) needs all the help it can get.

Oh right - does it have a great effect? My W123 has factory fitted green tinted windows... perhaps that's why the dash isn't as cracked as it could have been?

thayer 03-28-2011 05:40 PM

well, my arm doesn't hurt anymore when I am in direct sunlight for long periods of time, so I guess the leather doesn't hurt anymore either. It does cool down quicker, thats probably because the interior isn't allowed to get as hot as it used to. The only actual evidence is my arm not hurting when its in the sun.

a can of 25 year old wax? it must be dry as a 85 years old woman. wink wink~

That said, that result looks way too professional to have been done by an amateur. You probably cleaned, clay-bared, polished, then hand waxed that w126 to give off such shine and luster.

Dont lie now.

Dang-----That's one good looking RIDE.............

You really think that that is the case with those doors? I see absolutely no orange peel. Even the best sprayers in the world can't get it that smooth. You always had to sand the peel off.

Phew that makes me feel a little bit better about my efforts...

...I think we would all want to drive in a car that's as shiny as thayer's - and he's done especially well as it looks like he's busy with a young family too.
