Seatbelt Buzzer and SRS light 'fix' for 1995 E300D DIY

I always wear my seatbelt, but my preference is to start the car first before putting on the belt. The seatbelt warning buzzer on my 95 E300D was driving me nuts as it is really annoying. But the buzzer is valuable to keep working for when you leave your headlights on by mistake. So I decided to cut the cable leading to the seatbelt buckle.

Good news, the seatbelt buckle buzzer stopped.

Bad news, the SRS light came on. Crud.

Looking at the wiring below, you can see there are 4 wires, blue, brown, green and yellow.

I took out my trusty ohm meter and tested the wires on the buckle and what I found was...

1. The brown and blue wires were a short when the buckle was out, open when the buckle was in.

2. The yellow and green wires were open when the buckle was out, but when the buckle was in, the reading was 100 ohms. Ah ha!

So the open brown and blue wires must be tied to the buzzer (open = silence), but the yellow and green wires are looking for 100 ohms in order to keep the SRS light at bay.

So...

Next I'll put some heat shrink tubing over the resistor, shrink it and move the cable down under.

Hope this helps someone.

This is not a good idea... the SRS looks at the seatbelt buckle to decide if it needs to fire the seatbelt tensioner and how fast of a crash will set off the airbags.
