Emblem residue/GUNK removal?
I looked in the DIY links and didn't see anything that covers the GUNK left over from an emblem that was removed.
I've attached a pic and would happily use search for previous tips if someone would just clue me in as to what search term to use...or just tell me what product to buy that will remove this visible GUNK. I've tried Goo Gone but that left what you see in the pic.

If Goo Gone didn't remove it you will have to carefully wet sand and fully polish that area to remove the emblem shadow. That crap is literally embedded in the paint. I had the same problem when I removed the emblem on my 300E. I ended up just putting it back on.

LOL!
I was afraid of that... My roomate just recommended Lift Off so I may try that as well but will definitely give the wet sand/polish a run...if I can't get it off I may resort to a decal of some kind...like maybe a white one ...till I can look into tricking out the body. Any suggestions on where to look for aftermarket AMG type upgrades for an 87 300TDT?

Rubbing compound and a little elbow grease has worked will for me in the past on those.
If you are going to debadge it, just keep it off. Don't put emblems of what it's not (AMG, Sportline etc)

I am NOT looking for AMG (or any) badges. FWIW, that would be like slapping a Fender/Rickenbacker etc... badge on a Japanese copy...weak dude. What I am looking for is parts that will make my 87 300TD T look sportier/more streamlined/sweeter looking etc...if parts like that even exist for this model.

A cheap clay bar might work the residue out. It just takes off a layer very gradually.

The TURBO badge is one of the best parts

On this wagon, I prefer the stlye of the face-lifted look; with some different MB wheels, grill, tint, and headlight wiper delete With that said, I did like the pre-facelift look of my 3 series BMW (2000-2004?) better. If you can find an AMG body kit (front and rear bumpers and side skirts) that would be cool too!

The side front lights look a little off to me...the color seems yellow and offset from the main headlamp, at least at that angle. I'm powder coating my stock "15 hole" (for lack of real name) rims and looking to add chrome lug nuts to set them off a bit. Quote:

It's not for everyone and that's cool. It must be the angle as it's perfectly straight. The corners are "smoked" a little vs. the very bright white/clear. There is an orange bulb in there too and a black rubber trim behind it that can be seen which is throwint it off. I may try the factory clear/orange style if I see them around
Anyway, you might be able to pick up a 94-95 hood with original grill. I got mine for $150, but had to paint it of course. If you are lucky enough it will already be white and just bolt it on. It can be from a sedan or wagon. Love to see it with the coated wheels you are doing. Post some pics

I'm just really OCD on stuff being even/matching so the off color would drive me nuts.

I may take a look around for the hood...it would have to be perfect as is and match the existing paint...probably not likely.

Some light rubbing compound will take that off no problem.
Just keep rubbing until it starts to come off, then STOP. You don't want to overdo it on the first shot. Once you have taken off most of the outline (ie. stop at the point where the outline is still barely there), wipe off and polish the trunk lid area you are working on. Then carefully look and rub with a much smaller amount of compound, in steps until it is all gone (wipe off, rubbing compound, wipe off, examine, repeat..)

Instead of rubbing compound you might want to try polishing compound first because it's less aggressive. Switch to rubbing compound if the polishing compound isn't aggressive enough to remove the adhesive. Regardless finish the job with polishing compound so as not to damage the paint finish.
