MB or leather ?

Which models had seats that look exactly like MB but were leather ?

Or........is there such a bird ?

I am looking at one the seller says are leather but these look no different than both my other cars MB tex seats.

I thought leather had none of the tiny holes that MB has.

If they have tiny holes could they be leather ?

thanks,

Revolverman.

MB Tex is always easily identifiable by the distinct vertical seat lines. If it looks like your MB Tex, then it is! I bet most "normal" people with MBTex Benz's don't realize it isn't leather.

The late leather looks like this. It has very tiny perforations in the seat back/bottom.

which model?

Which model are you looking at. Of the w124s I've seen, the leather panels are
horizontal while the MB-Tex is vertical. Also, if you've been sitting on MB-Tex
for more than 100 miles, you can tell the difference immediately

Personally, I like the firmness, durability, and ease of maintenance of the MB.
Also in the early 124s I don't think there was a price difference (but I could be
mistaken). I do remember cloth seats being described as a "no cost option".

JohnM...
we were answering at the same time... what are the odds of that?
In any case... as you see I agree with you.

Thanks for the replies.

I was looking at a 1980 300SD.

The seats looks exactly like both my cars seats and mine are both MB-tex but this seller insist his car is a special leather seat edition but the seat lines are vertical and you can see the small holes in them and the look identical to every MB-tex seat I have ever seen.

You'll find some W123 (1981) leather pictures here:-

Is this leather of MBtex?

My w123 has the lines but it is definitely leather, verified both by MB and by the grain on the backside.

Yes, as Army pointed out. The W123 leather does have vertical lines from edge to edge like MBTEX.

Early w124 leather has vertical lines, but they don't run the full length. There is a border around the edges of the seat bottom.

I need help in this area..

How do I identify leather for a W210, I went to see a W210 at a car dealership, and the seats felt exactly like my W124 MB tex, even looked exactly like them except the seat lines ended in the middle rather than running full length like my car. The salesman was as usual swearing its leather -

I have seen MB leather in a W210 car in Dubai and it was quite pleated everywhere like the late W124 leather has and had a very distinct feel to it. Not the hard smooth feel of the tex. Are the US delivered a little different?

The best way is to look on the untanned side of the seat - nobody is going to fake the roughness of real leather there (tip given to me in the thread I posted previously).

A 210 is easy. Look at the covering for the door airbag. If it is smooth and tightly fitted, the car is tex. If the airbag cover is loose and "gathered", the car is leather. This works for U.S. cars, I'm jumping to the grand conclusion that it's universal across other markets too...
