Otto,

I just received the original paint for my 1980 model 450SL, and I don't know if you want to go with the original color.
The manufacturer of the paint is in Germany with the headquarter in the Netherlands. Their suppose the keep the original formula for 20 years.
I was lucky, since my brother is a big shot in this company and helped me out. They went to the Netherlands to get the formula, and then send it to a independent lab in the Detroit area to mix the paint. The lab in Detroit then send me all the stuff I needed to paint my car. The freight by FedEx from Detroit to my place in Tennessee was $ 540.00. ( hazard material )I have no idea what the cost of the material is, since my Brother picked up the tab for every thing since he owed me a big favor( I had to help him move into his new house while I was in Germany in December).
I also waited three month to get the paint.

But if I can help you in any way, just let me know.

Gunter

Otto,

I'll try to call my Brother in Germany tomorrow and see what he has to say and let you know.

The OEM for MB was Glasurit. Hard to get a hold of. In fact I had to take my car 100+miles to a shop that uses it. They have a Web site at www.glasurit.com

Otto,

I just talked to my brother in Germany and he told me that he would try to get the paint for you, but it would have to come from one of the European facilities and then sea freighted to your place.
This would take probably 3 months and he does not know what the price would be at this time, but I know the sea freight from Germany is allot less expensive then the FedEx freight from Detroit to Tennessee.
If you like to go this route you have to send me the information from your vehicle, which is located in front of the engine. It would probably be a good idea to send me the VIN # and model year of your Benz.
My brother will tell me what the price of the paint would be after he receives your vehicle identification numbers and then you can decide if you want the paint or not.

Boys and girls please listen up. Mercedes and all other manufacturers used paint from different sources all the time. The chance of you getting the SAME paint is,in all instances, an impossibility. The paints we use today, compared to twenty years ago are better and we can match anything you bring in the door. And will last longer too. Just go to a reputable shop or paint supplier and get the paint you need. Oh yes,,, it will be a LOT cheaper also.
