Help, Windlace sagging. Time to re-glue.

Okay folks,

This has gotten under my skin for long enough.

I can live with the vacuum locks not working, the worn steering box and the semi-repaired paint on the body.

The one thing I can't abide is this cloth windlace hanging and peeling off the rubber door surrounds. My question is this: What adhesive to use to re-glue this stuff.

I've used DAP Weldwood Contact Cement for the hood insulation. Would this work well for the windlace, or will it set-up too hard? I plan on pulling the rubber surrounds and steaming the cloth to make it pliable and easier to re-glue.

Any thoughts, opinions, rude comments?

Check out this thread. There was another good writeup at one time but I can't find it and it may have been over at benz world.

I used general spray adhesive. Nothing too strong. It held for 12 to 18 months, but is now coming undone.

The bigger issue for me is dry rot. You might not have a rot problem. Depends on climate.

I recently replaced my front door windlace with w126 pieces. You will need to cut carefully. I have more for the rear doors but am holding off on destroying originality; what's left of it....

Thanks guys,

That gives me a good start on recovery of the original look. I'm fortunate that dry rot is not yet an issue. Still might try contact cement, as it has worked well on the hoodpad and heat and time have yet to give any issue there.

Ordered windlace material from World Upholstery.

Looks like I will need to order some brown dye to match the (top) original windlace color.
