Vinyl Repair Kit.... Tested and successful!

I had a small cigarette burn from a PO below the parking brake on the center console... and it had been bugging me for a while...

I had bought a Permatex Vinyl Repair kit for another job many years ago, but never used it.
It has a bunch or colored repair pastes, some grain sheets and a small heating iron, etc.
Like this...
http://www.permatex.com/products/Automotive/specialized_maintenance_repair/professional_repair_systems/Permatex_Vinyl_and_Leather_Repair_Kit.htm

I decided to give it a try... and wanted to share the results..
Cleaned and sanded the damaged area to remove the crater.

Mixed the color, and applied it to the crater...

Applied the grain sample and cured the repair with the heating iron...
End result...

Its pretty darn good, and the picture makes it look worse than it is in real life... my buddy came over and I told him what I did, and in the garage under reasonable lighting he could not see where the repair was.

That is fantastic.

Can you show a picture of the grain sample you talk about? I guess that's like a mold... ?

The grain patches are small pieces of material about 1.5" square.

Good video instructional here..

That video doesn't seem to work for me. But it is OK I get idea a patch goes on top - not something being pressed into the glue - thanks (and sorry for the confusion).

The patch is pressed down onto the paste and is a grain mould inprinting the grain and flattening the paste... the heat cures the paste.
The video did not work for me the first time I tried it but now it does... try again?

Did your kit come with the little electric heating iron? I've got a Permatex kit that came with one, but haven't got up the courage to use it yet.
