Rebadging '87 300e

I want to rebadge my '87 300E. I think the old "300E" on the left rear with the line under it is dated. I got an "E300" from the Mercedes dealer ---this must have been for the diesel. The numbers on this "E300" insignia are smaller than on the old 300E sign, and there is no line under it. It looks more sedate. I won't rename my car an E300 since it is technically not an E series car yet--Mercedes did that in '94, I believe. I'm just going to swich it around so it reads 300E. But I want to put it in a postion that corresponds as close as possible to the newer 124's---namely the '94-'95's. I was wondering if the '93's had the 300E in the smaller lettering without the line. I know that it is a slighly updated version of the 124--the rear license plate holder is recessed ( my '87 does not have this), and there is lower body cladding, and I though I might have seen this car with the smaller 300E sign without the line in it. I ws hoping that any '92--'95 owners might send in photos of the rear of their cars so I could get an idea where to rebadge my car---actually I'm going to have the car detailed so I want the detailer to know where to place the new emblem. Any help wouild be much appreciated.

The 300E's have the same badging as the 86-92 models with the large 300E with the line under it.

The license plate update arrived with the lower body cladding in 90 or 91, not 93.

The 93 300E's got the engine upgrade that the 94-95 W124's and the 96-97 W210's got - the M104 3.2 liter DOHC engine. The 93's also got the interior upgrade as in the 94-95: passenger side airbag, armrest with flip-up lid and storage compartment, and the standard addition of the locking storage compartment underneath the armrest.

It is beyond me why they didn't call this model a 300E 3.2, or even E320.

The 93's didn't get the exterior upgrades - the hood with the new grill, the European style headlights and nearly clear corners, the new deck lid with the chrome strip underneath the star, completely painted front and rear bumpers, and new tail lights.

The new E 320 or E 300 badge goes in the exact same spot.

It is 91. I used to own a 90 and I still own a 91 so I know it is 91. The license plate update makes the car look much nicer (higher a#$).

When you are changing badging be aware,,, depending on the color of the car and how old the car is, you may still be able to see the silouettes of the old letters on the paint. It will be slight, but you can see them.

In Indonesia, they did sell the '93 300E 3.2 as 320E and 220E respectively (for the I-4 16V model)

Cool 300E bumper insert

Dear Loubapache: I noticed that your 300E has front end damage. I rebuilt and sold a 88 300E last year that hit a deer, and when i was ordering parts I ordered a new front bumper and insert separately, not realizing that the bumper comes with an insert. If you are interested I will sell the insert if you need one cheaper than they go for online. If you need a complete bumper then you might as well just buy the complete assembly, but anyway you can drop me a note at: coffee_lover99@yahoo.com if you are interested. Thanks, Pete Walls, Camas, WA 98607

Get a dremel tool with a cut-off disk. You can carefully cut the line off the bottom. If you cut straight, and even (you can use the cut-off disk to lightly sand down a small ridge) no one would ever tell you didi the job.
