201 190e console, whats missing?

hello all,
I often forget about this matter, but every now and then when I look past all the junk that center consoles collect, I realize there are little holes in the vinyl on the floor of the console that suggest maybe there are supposed to be screws or plugs in them. Is there a piece of carpet or something that is supposed to be there held down by rivets or whatnot? who knows?
thanks in advance,

If you mean right behind the shifter, and below/beside the parking brake -- you should have carpet. My 1991 190 does.

My 1988 2.6 has carpet there also. I'm pretty sure that every year came with carpet. Mine is coming off though so I can see how yours could be missing in action.

That slot you are talking about is for a cassette holder. Ive got one in mine. If you take it out, it looks like it should have carpet in there or something. the holder unclips and can be carried about with you, so if the car gets broken into you dont get your precious tapes nicked!

A rather tacky 1980's addition!!!
