If you want to do it right, use powder coating.. I love the way it looks in my engine compartment. not too expensive either, $40 for a valve cover $20 for an air cleaner. Lasts a long time too.
Good luck,
Adam

Another thing you may want to consider is Jet-Hot coating. This isn't for say, the distributor cap, but it would work great on the valve covers and manifolds. I am going to get my valve covers coated flat black, and get the manifolds coated (they do it inside and out) the "sterling" coating, which is a shiny silver color. It is a heat resistent coating, and won't flake or chip and will reduce engine compartment heat. I have also heard this being used for springs, and suspension parts...you can coat about anything with it, so long as you don't need fancy colors.

Do you have a quote on the valve covers?

The process sounds promising.

Yes I did, to coat my valve covers on my W126 V8 is $85 plus shipping. To coat it that silver color is 65, but the flat black is 20 more since it is a top coat over the silver.

$85 for both? So, for those of us with a single valve cover, can we assume it's half that price?

I couldn't find anywhere on the site that showed examples of the colors they offer. Do you have a link?

I don't personally have a link. I guess you can assume half that.... or close to half at least.

Just got a reply back from them.

$65 + s/h for the sterling silver finish...then $20 more for the other finishes.

Doesn't look like a price break for a single valve cover?????

Well I am guessing they have a minimum charge of some sort. Still, it isn't that expensive I don't think.

Well, if it's a min. charge, then I should be able to send in 2 covers for the same price :p

Go for it! But maybe your one cover is bigger than one of mine.

I just wish they had some pix of the different colors after being applied to a item.

The grey sounds interesting but I don't know if I'd like it until I saw it.....hard to believe they don't have example pictures on their site! How hard could that be to do??

Well after I got 2 internet quotes, they sent me a huge packet in the mail with a video and a bunch of brochures and stuff. I guess you could either hope you get one, or I would say call them or email them and ask for a packet.
