W123 cover entire car in duck tape?

Well I just purchased a 1985 300D which has not so perfect paint, and a couple small rust spots around the rear fenders. My first instinct was to bring it to a body shop but I was thinking that covering it in duck tape would be a pretty weird thing to do. As you can see after doing the first door it looks pretty super awesome. Currently I have all the doors done and want to start on the rest tomorrow.

i'd like to see that. Are you using regular silver tape or did you get the tape in wacky colors? Black duct tape may not look too bad.

im using black duck tape all over. I have all the doors done but havent had time when the weather permitted yet to get more done. Also, there are a thousand other little things to be done which all take a bit of time.

Cool. Sorry I didn't realize you had started already. I thought that was just a black door in the pic.

are the fender pieces going vertical instead of horizontal or am I just seeing things?

they are! It seemed it would be rather impossible to do those one horizontally as there would be nowhere to tuck the majority of the edges... may redoo the doors with another layer staying uniform but will have to use some adhesive to hold it on for any length of time...

Lightbulb Eternabond.....

It comes in chrome silver as well as white and is waterproof, and had a killer bond!

BTW, it's 'duct' not, "duck."

I know its supposed to be "duct" tape but it all is actually duck brand tape by shurtech so I feel like it could be appropriate kind of how most people seem to refer to any hook and loop fastener as Velcro or any photo copy as a xerox. Also to be legally called “Duct Tape” the tape must meet or exceed certain heat requirements and the packaging of the colored duck brand tape does not make such a claim.

I doubt that duck tape can compete with Eternabond tape.....in ANY way. Because they're probably different IN every way. Duct tape was/is commonly used as a temporary holding fix on NASCAR car bodies. It's not just that durable to heat, or cold, or water. Eternabond solves all that. I'd raise my sights were I wrapping my car in tape. You'll have to have a knife or scissors to cut Eternabond, unlike duct tape.

I recently learned that it was actually "duck" tape first, and then became known as duct tape later. Odd, but true.
