A quality carpet cleaner for the headliner, and maybe a disinfectant added at the base of the windshield to go throught the HVAC system, GM makes a purpose made spray for this and some people use Lysol.
There are also some ion or deionizing machines (not sure of the name) that rid odors, do a search for more info on them (a last resort that is probably over the top for your situation).

Check out Meguiar's odor eliminator spray, and www.carcareonline.com for automotive carpet cleaners.

Try www.leatherique.com or any leather cleaner to rid odors that have saturated into the leather, and a quality plastic cleaner like 303-Protectant to remove odor from the plastic.

What's the best way to clean headlining?

What's the most effective way of cleaning the headlining? The previous owner was a heavy smoker and although the interior is Palamino I would like to get it cleaned.Apart from the clean aspect there is a stale smell to the car which I want to be rid of.I've read previous posts on getting rid of the smell, but I wont be happy until I've cleaned all the interior properly!Bear

is the headliner cloth? - If it is, I used a foam type upholstery cleaner on mine - worked well.

I use Armor All cleaning wipes-leaves no residue, and cuts grease/gunk very well

HVAC stands for, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning.

check out www.leatherique.com they may have a UK distributor. Their leather cleaner is also a nice way to clean vinyl.

On my vinyl I use an enviromentally friendly cleaner called Simple Green - works great on smoke and grease! Another product out there - can't remember the name- is made from orange oil and also works good - leaves a nice citrus smell in the car too!!!

Thanks for all the replies folks,I'll have a go at it when the weather gets a bit dryer.
Ethan special thanks it might have seemed a stupid question, but most 123's weren't fitted with aircon over here.It never gets warm enough to warrant the expense of air conditioning. Over here hot means you open the windows, very hot means the sunroof too!!
Thanks again Bear
