W123 Headliner Replacement

I need to replace the headliner in my 1985 300D sedan. The upholstery shop tells me the rear window needs to be removed. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks.

My 1987 300TD wagon was sold and my 2003 W210 E320 wagon was totaled (sheds tear).

You are correct. With the new headliner material, new rear window seal, labor for the rear window and to remove and replace the sunroof and labor to install the headliner it ended up at almost $800.
