Headlight/Lense protective film

hey has anyone found a source for a film that goes over your headlight lenses and protects them from rocks and cracks and pits?

3M sent me a hundred feet of this film for free, but it is too thin and not sticky enough. i know 3M makes a film that goes on the front of a volvo's hood to protect it from the same thing.

ive also heard of something called Stone Guard ive seen on porsches.

my euro lights were just way too$$ to let them get damaged from highway driving!

cheers
eric

Peyton,

I have the Groits protective film on my Porsche lenses. I had to cut them to size (made a template first), which was fairly simple to do. It is great not having to worry about rock damage...

I have been using Groits products for a couple years now and have been very impressed with all the products I have purchased. They sell great paint cleaning/polishing/waxing supplies.

good luck,
Jerry

Eric,

I went with the larger size as I have an "89 SL.
It is easy to work with, just cut the size of the headlight/ peel backing / then trim with a razor blade. The lens cover is thick, so debris will not break the lamp.

I have euros w/ city lights/ mercedes REAL HID headlamp assy's and euro wipers

When I purchased my W124 a couple of months ago, I got the Stongard treatment (which looks excellent I'll add).

The Stongard Light (for healights, not to be confused with light-weight), is extra-thick compared to the body-Stongard film and has a crack-free guaratee for your headlights - they replace your healight for free if they crack form road debris - no deductible, no limit on number of claims (legit claims, of course).

At $50 for my car, it was about the same cost as for the Griot's film if I remember right. The guarantee made it a no-brainer for me. I just checked, and they have a fitment for the W126 - $60 for both headlights. I'd check with them to see if they have a different kit for Euro-lights.

www.stongard.com/

Good Luck,
- Ryan

stonguard?

just went to the stonguard site and i can't understand it.i put in the particulars of my mb and it gave me a price for each headlight together and prices for them seperately.guess what?!the individual prices ,when totaled together, were less than the price for both sides combined!obviously something is wrong but the site didn't contain too much information.there is a contact number but it should be laid out better so that you don't have to ask questions.if your going to order this you should be prepared to wait until you get your questions answered

You're right daddio, it's not the best website I've seen. In fact it's bad, but it's better than none if you ask me!

The information is there if you dig around for it. Good Luck!

Perry,

This the stuff you got?

Ryan,

I looked at that site and found the car type search page but it only listed a W126 for '86-'91 models. I'm not exactly sure what I need to specify for euro lights for my '85 W126.

I believe that you can also find the protectant film from

www.************************

I'm not sure of prices and sizes, though.

Yes, this is what I used. Has worked great so far. With your euro lamps, you probably would want to go with 2 of the small sheets $$$$ just measure your lamp size.

The other headlamp covers are not generally made for the euro lamps.

I am going to put a Berg Werks 160W/130W light relay kit on my euro lights. Will the extra heat from the high wattage bulbs have any effect on the film? Will it melt or disfigure it in any way?

I started using clear packing tape for some below-the-bumper fog lights. It worked pretty good, cheep but only lasted a year or so. It did a good job of keeping them from getting sandblasted.
