leather cracks and tears
Has anyone here used the leather restoring kit.You clean first, then glue, and then apply a type of bondo and sand leather. Then you dye it back to color.

Leather Magic makes a good comprehensive kit. The repair part is fairly simple if you follow the instructions. I find the color matching to be the trickiest part but never claimed to be an artist. I can do a 7 inch crack line on black leather and you will never know it was there - move to a tan color and its getting tough for me.

After screwing around with a bunch of dyes (real dye) and not paint, I can say with 100% confidence that you can dye leather but MB tex is tough in the long run. As for cracks or cracks which border on tears, they make a filler which will not stick for long. It will 'crack' off from the area you replaced. Sort of think of Bondo but with a lot of flex issues going on. Now, if you can find real leather replacements, which has no cracks or deep cracks, then just re-dye them your color.

I'd agree on the fillers. I tried some on my dash that I was promised would work, they lasted about a week. I had fairly good luck dyeing a dash as well as some hard plastic parts, and that should work even better on actual leather.
You might be able to find color matched dye for your car, or even have it matched (it will probably be cheaper if you find a company that has the dye already) - you should be able to use a lookup/cross reference to figure out the original color code for your car - though I found that the color code does not necessarily match the dye's color code. It was all a bit confusing.

These places sell MBZ color code dyes:
Mercedes-Benz Upholstery, Seats, Carpets, Interior Panels, Convertible Tops, Floor Mats, Headliners and Other Trim Accessories from World Upholstery and Trim https://leathermagic.com/mercedes-interior-colors/ Mercedes Leather Dye Color Chart Please post your results. I found one of those in a thread where a guy dyed an armrest Palamino color which looked great. I forget which vendor he used though. A quick search yielded quite a few results who all match MBZ colors. |

Color Plus in Milford, PA, has excellent dyes for leather and MB tex. Exact color matches also (they will also match to a sample). Extremely durable and easy to apply. They have a website.
