I picked up a footrest as an LKQ (pick n pull) $4.63

I can paint the plastic fairly easily but I need to change the carpet. The carpet came off but the glue that's beneath it carpet won't let go. Sand paper take it off but there has to be a better way. I tried thinner, acetone and denatured alcohol. The acetone smears the plastic.

Does anyone know anything that will remove the glue used by MB in the 1980s.

Try Goo Gone, Goof Off, Krud Kutter, or the like and a plastic razor blade.

I think I have a can of Goo Gone. I'll give that a whirl.

It turns out the quickest way to get the glue off a plastic part is with a harbor freight sanding wheel on a drill. It skinned the plastic a bit but that's easily smoothed with a slurry of ABS plastic and acetone.

This is like construction. When you learn the tricks it's quite a bit of fun.
