Has anyone bought the windlace material from

World Upholstery?

I'm going to have to buy some material to recover these on my project car.

Strangely enough I've had good fortune recoloring interiors.

Have you used it, is it of good quality and worth the ~$14/yd they are asking for it? I'm supposing that yd is the length of the 3" strip they offer.

Imo, there is a high probability that the material will take to SEM paint. I've painted black, blue, palomino and gray with the SEM 4500 Lt Charcoal all which became the exact same color. The plastic pieces and the carpet were just as exact. The plastic was mostly blue but the carpet was all faded gray. The blue carpet wouldn't change to the dark gray color.

I believe the leather will color just as well.

No, never used it. They only had 3 colors left in stock. I ended up going with black in my red sedan, and it was from an upholstery shop. Ask for free samples and you can take that material to a fabric store. It is a "poly blend" per one of the silver hair foxes who waited on me ...

I requested samples. I really appreciate your experience and advise. I will find a good quality material that matches. If I can get close to the right color I'm probably going to try and make it exact with the SEM Colorcoat.

Thank you for your advise and help.

Heads up ... you cannot really re-dye polyester. I would talk to the silver haired foxes at Michaels and Hobby Lobby ...

SEM says Colorcoat will stick to the velour and carpet but limits you to refinishing the original color.

I tried CC on both the old gray windlace and one piece of blue to see if I could get away with something they didn't recommend. They were right. I've shot over a gallon of Colorcoat and nothing has frustrated my efforts but that blue windlace.

The original gray windlace did fine with the dark gray SEM Colorcoat. The issue was the worn spots that were completely bear. I should have seen that coming.

I'll check with the shops and I might talk to some auto interior people too. Thanks again.
