Wierd water spots that don't come off

I live in Florida and our water is really bad. I leave my car outside and after a while i noticed that the sprinklers have created permanent water spots on my car. How do i get them out? It looks really bad.

I had that happen on or Acura Legend from re-cycled water at the hospital. Mequiers #9 wouldn't touch it - took it out short of professional body shop attantion. They wound up color sanding several of the worst, and power polishing the others.

Try some white vinegar on a soft cloth (old cotton "T" shirt)( in an inconspicuous spot first). Golf course here uses recycled water and if you're parked near the sprinklers you get some REALLY interesting water spots! The acetic acid worked for me, but I did get to them moderately quickly. The Secretary disavows all knowledge should paint damage occur (mine was fine). FWIW.

Yeah, white vinegar should get rid of water spots. Just rinse the car with water afterwards. There are some kinds of pollutants that look kind of like water spots but aren't, so if the vinegar doesn't work, you might have to go with wetsanding/high speed buffing.

The vinegar didn't work. I think it might be oxidation, does anyone have any other suggestions?

I've had similar problems with hard water stains on a dark paint. I actually washed the car with a normal car soap and then followed with #9 and some wax.

Now if the water has managed to etch the paint then you might need to have the area buffed out. I would also consider trying something a bit more abrasive like a rubbing compound. Be gentle when using rubbing compound, you don't want to create swirl marks when doing this. If this works then follow up with the #9 and a coat of wax.

Hope this helps

Acutally the water spots aren't on my "paint". They are on those things that go under the windows and around the windows. That hard plastic type material. But they are on the outside and it looks terrible. I really want to get rid of that and also how do i get rid of cat scratches on my trunk?

If its plastic, try some Flitz metal/fiberglass polish. It does wonders for old plastic, I have seen it take old plastic and make it very presentable.

Flitz with a terry cloth towel, see if that helps. Wipe it in and buff it up well, then get a clean spot ont he towel, and polish it out. It should come out if the flitz does what it does to plastic from what I have seen firt hand.

You should be able to get flitz at your hardware store or maybe an autoparts store.

My brother has used flitz on his plastic slightly faded indicators on his car and they came out beautiful. He also did the plastic headlight bezels on a few members w124's and the results were very good.

Believe me when I say flitz polishes up plastic quite well. My brother has taken faded mb plastic headlight bezels and other plastic lenses, including the interior wood, and polished them to a brilliant clean smooth shine.
