Dr. Vinyl
Anybody ever heard of this company? They claim to be able to restore interrior components as well as re-dye them. I'm getting a quote for my 76 450SL this weekend and am curious to know if anyone else has any experience with them.
Thanks!!

it's a small franchise
I saw this franchise at a convention in orlando, they had a nice/catching demo of how they could repair cut and torn vynil or leather. Pretty convincing. They used the same stuff you can buy at discount autoparts to repair vynil. The difference is they know how to use it .

tried them
Guys,
I tried a local franchise here in Charlotte. He did a fair job of re-dying my front seats. The repair work he did was good - he patched a hole in the driver's seat back bolster. The dying was only fair and has cracked. I would not recommend it. I think in part it was due to the leather needed conditioning first and he did not do that ( maybe you can ask for it?). I think he charged $200 for the seat bottom and backs of both front seats. The coloring he did was excellent. I asked about fixing a hole in the vinyl on the door panel next to the window ( the age old elbow rub spot). I think he wanted $85 for that. I did not choose that service. As in any franchise, I would check for local references. Yours may be excellent. I have seen a website for Leatherique (sp?) and it seems to have a more complicated and longer process. It does have some conditioning that may soften and prevent the re-occurance of cracks in the same locations. It seems to take several days to a week to complete. If I had it to do over I would try that. The only uncertainty would be the color match. Chuck |
