w124 front bumper - filler strip for front plate ?

hello,

just bought a 1993 300e. i live in florida so i do not need a front license plate. the vehicle currently has the provision for one, but i am wondering if mercedes offers a plain filler strip. i feel i would give a much "cleaner" look. i checked with my local dealer, but they didn't think what i was looking for was available. any help or possible part number appreciated!

thanks in advance,
rob

I'm not aware of any filler strip either. I had to replace the entire impact strip years ago, and tried to obtain a solid one back then.

The current strip is design to accommodate the euro and domestic plate housings. I suppose any add-on over the current strip would still have a visible tell-tale look of an add-on, so it might even look worse!

Since you don't need a plate, consider an MB logo plate instead. I went with the short euro-style chrome plate, but I had experimented with the black backgound plate and the domestic-sized chrome plate as well. I like my current setup the best...complements the rims.

Not the best pic, but you get the flavor...

Actually there is a filler piece which creates a smooth front bumper.

You'll need to remove your current piece which holds your temperature sensor using a philips screwdriver. There are four screws at the bottom of the piece.

To purchase a new piece call or email Phil at the PartsShop and he'll take care of you. I bought mine from him a couple of months ago for $70 something dollars.

Afshin ( Placo1 ),

You lucky guy ! Not because you have the cleanest 500E I've ever seen, but you also got the part at a very good price.

Phil quoted me one for $ 107.00. The MB dealer gave me more or less the same price, they were able to show me the part in their system but they do not stock it. The MB dealer is not able to sell it here because in our state is against the law to drive without the front license plate.

I've got mine from Performance Products because I had a 15% discount coupon. I end up paying like $ 98.00 for it.

Hey Ernesto,

Actually I'm not all that lucky.

The reason yours costs more is because the 94 and newer cars had painted inserts. The painted inserts cost $126 at the stealership so your cost of $98 is really good. Anyone who has a 93 and older will have the same black insert I do which costs the same as mine. You did well with your purchase!
