Unhappy squeeky, rattling dash

I have an 89 300 SEL that I have been troubleshooting. The car is running great and I am enjoying it. I am now focusing on the smaller but annoying issues. The dash rattles when I go over uneven pavement or cobblestones. I live on a cobblestone street!. I have been trying to lubricate the parts that come together, the plastic parts, that seem to be the source. I have been using a vinyl treatment not unlike Armorall.

Any suggestions?? It is worse when the ineterior is cold. When it sits in the sun, it is almost silent. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks,

Herekee

What is Vinylex? A lubricant or a conditioner of some sort?

Cheers
Matt.

If its trim squeeks try placing stick on felt pads under the trim, you can cut to size. If you have trouble locating squeeks and rattles try touching just about every spot around the noisy area with either your finger or pressing firmly with your palm for larger areas. Have fun !

I have had the same problems on my Range Rover (they all do it) and have found that isolating the area and spraying a small amount of silicone lubricant seems to cure the problem. For more difficult areas, a minor amount of disassembly and the application of some graphite lubricant has also worked well. Felt pads will do the trick as will the thicker weather strip tape for areas which need more padding between surfaces. Now my RR is squeak free.

Talking dashboard rattles

I was having this recently for about 2 months and one day couldn't have anymore of it and looked under the dashboard and into the glove box. Lo and behold the number of loose screws I found there. Got hold of a Philips screw driver and tightened all the loose screws and there are no squeaks or rattles anymore! Hopefully I have found the cause or it will appear again later. Sometimes the dashboard expands in the heat and won't rub panels. When its colder, the slight space between panels will result in squeaks when the chassis warps over bumps or rough roads.

Vinylex

Moraine,

>> VINYLEX contains no silicone <<

FYI - From their website:

VINYLEX contains a unique patented composition of silicone and organo-functional silicone specifically designed to provide the desired performance and appearance along with special emulsifiers that cause the formula to break on application.
