Paint Chips
Picked up my 02 ML today after being detailed at our local MB shop. I noticed 3 paint chips in the front. I was surprised because I have babied my ML and the only long distance trip I took was from Columbus, OH to Chicago (6 hours), My question's are : could they have chipped it when buffing or when test driving to find a rattle or did that one trip to Chicago give me 3 new chips in paint? I am so depressed that my company car, a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix has 40,000 miles with no paint chips and no babying at all and my 02 ML with 3500 miles with only one long distance trip has 3 paint chips, does the paint of MB chip easy...... Can I prevent them?????

paint chips
Yes , they are all using the water based paints now due to the more recent concern about global atmospheric pollution due to factory polllutants released into the atmosphere and causing the hole in the ozone layer to expand. This paint is softer than the usual paint using thinners, so we should all be getting more frequent stone chips, thanks to the greenies! My suggestion is to use the clearbra or the black carbra. The clearbra looks better, but harder to apply and to remove if required. The carbra covers a bigger portion of the front, hood, bumper and side panels. The clearbra can also cover the roof front edge, the panels on both sides of the windscreen, the door handle area, the door rear edges, the RV mirror backing, the rear bumper and boot access area and so on. Have fun putting this on and keep your paintwork clear of chips!
